Dedicated to the beautiful twin girls Lital and Lielle.

Lital and Lielle served on the Gaza border. On that dreadful day in October, which leaves an unhealing wound in the heart of every Israeli, Lital was on leave, while her sister was at the military base. Lielle fought bravely against armed Hamas militants and was gravely wounded. Miraculously, she managed to escape from there.

It turned out that besides my family, the girls had no one else. Mark and I met Lielle at the hospital with Lital. The atrocities committed against the girl by terrorists defy description—there are no words in the human world for such horror! I carefully removed Lielle’s blood-stained clothes, choking back tears, while Mark remained motionless, kneeling in the back of the room. Lital, standing next to Mark, cried softly and desperately with closed eyes.

Lielle died in the hospital, and Lital lost her mind.

Mark drew the girls in beautiful dresses— he remembered how I once helped brought them those dresses for a family celebration. Lital searched for her sunny dress a belt and found a silky one with a large beautiful rose. Lielle teased her—being a rebel by nature, she didn’t care about fashion or girly accessories. All of this was new to Mark; he watched the beauties in amazement.

How painful it is that such happiness will never happen again. Very painful… unbearable…

Mark, with his deep soul, deliberately painted green leaves, flowers, and an angel on Lielle’s stomach to cover the terrible wounds on the girl’s body. I’m sure he hopes that because of this painting, Lielle will feel less pain.

And Haim, Lital’s beloved rabbit, now lives with us and occasionally educates our two cats and even the dog. We sincerely hope that his owner will recover, and they will be together not only in Mark’s painting.

Mark has classic autism. Through paints and brushes, we have a way to communicate.
